McIntosh Amplifier Value Guide (2026)
McIntosh is the only American hi-fi brand that has maintained consistent collectibility from its 1950s tube products through its current production lineup. The blue watt meters are the most recognizable badge in audio. Used McIntosh equipment sells fast at predictable prices because the buyer pool is large and brand loyalty is strong.

Tube vs solid state
McIntosh tube amplifiers from the 1960s (the MC240, MC275, C22) are genuine collector pieces. The MC275 in particular has been continuously reissued because demand is so consistent. An original MC275 from 1961 sells for more than the current production version, which itself sells for $5,000 new. The tube preamps (C22, C11) are equally valued.
Solid state McIntosh
The solid state era McIntosh (MC2105, MA6200, MA6600, MC452) holds value because it's bought by people who want McIntosh specifically, not vintage audio generically. A MA6600 bought new for $4,500 sells used for $2,000 to $2,500, about 50 cents on the dollar. That's typical for quality electronics and better than most brands manage.
Authentication
McIntosh forgeries exist at the high end, particularly for tube-era pieces. Serial numbers are documented and verifiable through McIntosh directly. Before buying a vintage tube piece above $3,000, verify the serial number with McIntosh customer service. They're helpful and this takes one email.
